Rooftop Pollinator Habitat — Bow Bells House, City of London

With the support of Savills building managers, Urban Bees has transformed the eight storey rooftop at Bow Bells House into the third best for pollinators in the City * by allowing a wide range of native and non-native, drought-tolerant plants to flourish, providing nesting sites for wild bees, and employing maintenance practices that boost biodiversity.

More than 15 different pollinators have been recorded, including Green furrow bees (Lasioglossum morio), Four-banded flower bee (Anthophora quadrimaculata) and Wool carder bees (Anthidium manicatum) which feature in the 2026 National Geographic documentary, Secrets of the Bees.

"Urban Bees has transformed two City office rooftops I have managed from grey, dead spaces into colourful bee havens buzzing with life. Alison has a wealth of knowledge about how to feed bees with attractive, long-flowering plants. Once the bee gardens are established, Alison maintains them monthly and monitors the different wild bee visitors. I never knew there could be so many, including Hairy-footed flower bees, Common carder bees and Buff-tailed bumblebees. Our tenants love to hear about which bees have visited and are happy to pay the costs involved. Alison is easy to work with, very reliable and passionate about bees."
