{"id":915,"date":"2013-08-31T11:04:09","date_gmt":"2013-08-31T10:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urbanbees.co.uk\/blog_1\/?p=915"},"modified":"2018-08-21T10:18:18","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T09:18:18","slug":"2013-review-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urbanbees.co.uk\/blog_1\/?p=915","title":{"rendered":"2013 &#8211; review of the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our successful four year partnership with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.co-operative.coop\/Plan-Bee\/latest-news\/plan-bee\/london-urban-beekeepers\/\">Co-op Group\u2019s Plan Bee <\/a>came to an end this year when we completed a year-long teaching course for the final cohort of 20 new beekeepers at the Camley Street apiary in King\u2019s Cross.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xavy.fr\/-air--97.html\">  97<\/a> We also used Plan Bee funds to set up a new community apiary at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park and taught 20 aspiring local apiarists, some of whom have formed the <a href=\"http:\/\/thcpbees.co.uk\/\">THCPbees group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We continued work with the <a href=\"http:\/\/honeyclub.org\/blog\/\">Honey Club<\/a> in King\u2019s Cross,  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xavy.fr\/-pegasus.html\"> pegasus<\/a> teaching young people and business people about bees at new hives in the Skip Garden and taking part in many bee-related events.<\/p>\n<p>A bee-themed pub quiz was one of the highlights of the year at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.victoriabid.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Green-Infrastructure-Map.pdf\">Victoria Business Improvement District <\/a>where we continue to help to make their environment more bee-friendly.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fjallravenkankenuk.me.uk\/k-aring-nken-mini-uk.html\"> Mini<\/a> We are also talking to a number of businesses across London about improving habitats and forage for bees and other pollinators.<\/p>\n<p>We took part in the London pollinators\u2019 forum which is feeding into the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2013\/jun\/28\/bee-crisis-urgent-review\">government\u2019s national pollinator strategy<\/a> to be announced in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>We think trees have a huge role to play in making towns and cities more bee-friendly,  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xavy.fr\/-chaussure.html\"><\/a> so we have produced the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanbees.co.uk\/trees\/trees.htm\">Urban Bees\u2019 Tree for Bees guide<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanbees.co.uk\/trees\/trees.htm\"><br \/> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>We hosted visitors from around the world including<a href=\"http:\/\/lga-ap.com\/sustainability\"> architects<\/a> in Toronto who are looking to London for inspiration to create bee caring communities,  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fjallravenkankensale.me.uk\/kanken-mini.html\"> Mini Backpack<\/a> and Urban Bees&#8217; work with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanbees.co.uk\/gallery\/Sir_John_Cass_Primary_School_bees\/\">Sir John Cass School<\/a> in the City was featured in a photographic exhibition at the United Nations in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>Our<a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanbees.co.uk\/courses\/courses.htm\"> taster days <\/a>at Camley Street proved as popular as ever, as more and more people want to learn about bees.
