{"id":105,"date":"2008-08-30T12:04:37","date_gmt":"2008-08-30T11:04:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urbanbees.co.uk\/blog_1\/?p=105"},"modified":"2018-08-21T10:19:18","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T09:19:18","slug":"battersea-hive-and-the-drone-laying-queen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urbanbees.co.uk\/blog_1\/?p=105","title":{"rendered":"Battersea hive and the drone laying queen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After yesterday&#8217;s inspection from the lovely man from the Central Science Laboratory it was discovered we had a drone laying queen in the WBC hive therefore the colony was on it way to certain death. Gladly though I had a nuc with a small colony of bees that I had recovered from a secondary swarm a few weeks earlier and was therefore able to use to give new life to the failing WBC hive.<\/p>\n<p>To combine the two hives I took all the contents of the nuc including the queen and placed them into a super on top of the brood box of the WBC separated by a sheet of newspaper.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alter48.fr\/-air-huarache.html\"><\/a> (I had previously taken out the drone laying queen).  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mochilas-kanken.com.es\/mochilas-fjallraven-kanken-mini.html\">Mochilas  Mini<\/a> Overnight the queens pheremone will spread throughout the combined colonies and hopefully the inhabitants will then happily live side by side.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xavy.fr\/\"><\/a> The bees will tear away the paper until the workers are free to move between the two sets of frames.<\/p>\n<p>This morning I had a look at the entrance and everything seemed to be normal.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xavy.fr\/-air--2014.html\">  2014<\/a> No fighting or dead bees.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow I will find the queen and put her in the downstairs brood box and give them a feed.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mochilas-kanken.com.es\/mochilas-fjallraven-kanken-classic.html\"> <\/a> Hopefully there is enough time for the colony to expand in numbers before the autumn. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After yesterday&#8217;s inspection from the lovely man from the Central Science Laboratory it was discovered we had a drone laying queen in the WBC hive therefore the colony was on it way to certain death.
