Corporates – sponsor your own urban apiary

Urban Bees is keen to work with companies to promote biodiversity and urban beekeeping in cities. We can educate and train employees about the important role bees play in promoting the biodiversity of our cities by pollinating our plants.

By sponsoring a community-based urban apiary, companies can provide opportunities for employees to develop new beekeeping skills and knowledge, to volunteer in the community and to team build.

Your urban apiary would be a community resource, also allowing people from poorer communities to learn new skills, to improve their wellbeing by reconnecting with nature, to enjoy the nutritional and medicinal qualities of locally-produced honey, and to generate income from selling bee-related products. It would be an ideal project for companies wishing to support local communities through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

An urban apiary would contain four of five beehives and a classroom in an urban green space. It could also support companies’ efforts to create more wild, green spaces in urban areas to increase biodiversity and give bees a rich source of food.

We are currently working with companies in the City of London to teach employees to become urban beekeepers, and with the Co-operative Group and London Wildlife Trust to set up and maintain a community apiary in King’s Cross to train new beekeepers.
